Max the Movie: Best Friend. Hero. Marine

On June 26  Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures present “Max,” a family action adventure from writer/director Boaz Yakin (“Remember the Titans,” “Fresh”).

Best Friend. Hero. Marine. Max

Max tells the story of a a precision-trained military dog, Beligian Malinois Max, who serves on the frontlines in Afghanistan with his handler, U.S. Marine Kyle Wincott.

When things go terribly wrong on maneuvers, and Kyle doesn’t survive, Max is traumatized by the loss of his best friend and is unable to remain in service.

After being sent home to the US, the only human he seems willing to connect with is Kyle’s teenage brother, Justin and he is saved when he is adopted by Kyle’s family. But Justin has issues of his own, and he isn’t interested in taking responsibility for his brother’s troubled dog. With the help Carmen, a tough-talking young teen who has a way with dogs, Justin begins to appreciate his new canine companion.
Justin’s growing trust in Max helps the four-legged veteran revert back to his heroic self and the two each find an unlikely new best friend…in each other.

Justin and Max learn to trust each other and heal.

Max stars Josh Wiggins (“Hellion”) as Justin Wincott, Lauren Graham (TV’s “Parenthood”) as his mom, Pamela, and Oscar nominee Thomas Haden Church (“Sideways”) as his dad, Ray.

I usually avoid seeing movies involving animals in theaters because I know I’m destined to ugly cry in public, but I cannot wait to see Max. I have a big soft spot for Military Working Dogs and believe that they deserve recognition and respect as members of the military that serve and protect our country.  This film is a great opportunity for the general public to learn more about what our K9 soldiers do for us and that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) does not only effect humans.

This film is rated PG, so it is a family friendly film for the whole family and shows a great example of the human-animal bond and how important it is to both humans and animals. Saveavet.org, USWarDogs.org and MissionK9Rescue.org are great resources for information regarding Military Working Dogs and PTSD.
