Peanut Butter, Bacon and Banana Dog Treat Recipe
It’s Spoil Your Pet Month, and even though I spoil Delia every day, I baked some special treats for her with three of her favorites…bacon, bananas, and peanut butter. She loved them so much she actually begged for more!
I followed this recipe from Epicurious with a little tweaking. (I didn’t have any flax seeds, so we skipped those, and we didn’t baste them with the honey mixture before baking because I was going to dip them in carob, but changed my mind after baking. She still loved them.)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of whole wheat flour
1 tbsp of honey
3 strips of bacon finely chopped
1 large egg
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup natural peanut butter
1 mashed banana
I mixed the mashed banana, peanut butter, honey, bacon, and egg; then added the oats and flour until well blended. I chilled the dough in the fridge for a little over an hour, then kneaded, rolled and cut. The dough was easy to knead and the cookie cutters cut the dough cleanly. The cookies baked for about 15 minutes at 350 degrees. Delia sat at the table waiting for them to cool. She could hardly stand the wait, but it was worth it.
How do you spoil your pet? Do you like to bake them special treats?

This treats sound great! I can’t wait to make them for my dog.

Hi,
With the bacon, do these have to be refrigerated? If so, can they be frozen?
For how long?
Thanks

Hi Rosanne!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I do refrigerate them if they are not being fed the same day to be safe, and have frozen them for up to two months.
