Remembering My Boys on National Pet Memorial Day
The second Sunday in September is National Pet Memorial Day. While I think of them every day, I’ve been spending time today remembering my Nicky, Niño and Mickey.
Mickey was my best friend growing up. He was a gift from my Father when I was four years old and had chicken pox. He was my constant companion and a source of comfort when my Father passed away three years later. We had 13 years together. It wasn’t until I started picking photos for this post that I realized I only have one photo of Mickey scanned, so I must fix that.
Here we are when when I was about 6 years old.
Nicky and Niño were adopted just a month apart. They were only three months apart in age. They were the very best of friends. Niño was my shadow. He was my rock. Nicky was more independent. A free spirit. Nicky passed away suddenly in June of 2009. Niño passed six months later. His heart was broken when Nicky passed and he never recovered. When I lost my boys I didn’t think I would recover.
Niño and Nicky
Niño was an excellent model for me. We had a lot of fun photo shoots together.
Nicky wasn’t much of a fan of the camera. It was hard to catch a photo of this little guy, and when I did, I cherished every one.
