Introducing….Delia!
Let me introduce you to….Delia! Delia’s my two year old (her 2nd birthday is today!) spunky Bichon Frise who came to live with my family this past January. I work at a veterinary hospital and Delia was boarding with us over the New Year holiday because her guardian was ill. Sadly, her guardian passed away while she was staying with us. Delia needed a home and I was ready to adopt. It was a perfect match. Delia is a princess with an edge. She loves to fetch, be chased and wrestle with other dogs, but don’t dare expect her to drink after other dogs at the dog park or at…

Pooches in the Ballpark Recap
I was invited by Purina to cover the 2011 Pooches in the Ballpark event at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Local adoption organizations were on site with adoptable animals and fans had the opportunity to bring along their dogs in their finest Cardinals gear. As the sporty pooches lined up for the parade, I made my way along the line to meet and photograph each dog. Then, we headed into the stadium and down to the passage leading to the field. Cards mascot Fredbird entertained the dogs and played a bit before hitting the field. The dogs were adorable. Everyone was so well behaved and so very curious about this…

Sweet Pea’s Story-Part 3
Part one and Part 2 and Part 4 At 10 years old, Sweet Pea is a happy, healthy little Parrotlet. I recently read a description of Parrotlets as being “feisty.” Feisty is such a fitting word. These little birds have such big personalities and they’re so smart. Sweet Pea is like a tiny clown. Always up to new tricks and acrobatics. Sweet Pea has turned into quite a snuggler in recent years and loves to watch videos of other Parrotlets in action. Thankfully the shop where I found her closed years ago. I’m so glad I decided to stop that day and so grateful for my little Sweet Pea. …

Sweet Pea’s Story-Part 2
Sweet Pea’s Story-Part 2…(Part one can be read here.) Niño and Sweet Pea Nicky and Niño were ready to burst with excitement about this new family member. I put her in her travel cage and we all gathered on the floor. Nicky and Niño were leashed in case they got too excited…they sniffed around the cage…she followed, checking them out…Nicky lingered a bit too long and she nipped his nose. No damage done, but he learned his lesson. Niño sat back and watched and, I imagine, took mental notes. This first intro went well. Sweet Pea was indifferent towards Nicky, but took quickly to Niño. She would chatter to him…

Sweet Pea’s Story-Part 1
(Sweet Pea’s first photo 2001) Ten years ago as I was traveling through a small Missouri town I saw a little pet store and decided to stop in. I was shocked at the menagerie in this tiny dingy store. Dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, rodents, tarantulas and a wallaby! It made me sick-the smell-the filth-the fact that these animals were living like this. Amidst the chaos sat a tiny cage with a tiny green bird perched quietly inside. She was so tiny and stuck in a cage with no toys and dirty water. I knew immediately she was mine. There was no way she would spend another day there. I had…
