Calvin’s Smile
Sometimes I forget that what may seem like a simple snapshot to me, may hold a greater meaning for someone else. I snapped these shots of Calvin simply because he is adorable, and after all he has dealt with and overcome, when he looks me in the eye and wags, it melts my heart. As I was snapping, he smiled. His huge, adorable, goofy smile. My heart melted. I didn’t give the pics much more thought when I uploaded them to the A Howlin’ Good Time Facebook page. A few days later, his mom told me that the photo of his smile made her melt. I thought it was funny…

Happy 7th Birthday Delia!
Happy 7th Birthday, Delia! My baby girl is 7 years old. I can’t believe how fast time is flying. Wasn’t she just a year and a half old? How is it possible she’s 7?! We went low-key with the party for now. I’ve been sick, and we’re packing to move soon, so we decided to wait until we are settled to have her celebration with her friends. I found this adorable Garanimals unicorn t shirt for human toddlers and couldn’t pass it up. The 2T size fits Delia nearly perfectly. This unicorn emoji pillow is one of her favorites. My princess is a girl after my own heart….we both love…

5 Resources for Finding Lost Pets
One of the most awful experiences a pet parent can face is when a pet goes missing. It can happen in the blink of an eye. My childhood best friend, Mickey, disappeared one evening during a potty trip outside. It was our fault. We let him out onto our patio behind our apartment complex alone. He had always returned right after he did his business, we didn’t expect this night to be any different. (Now, I can’t imagine what we were thinking! How foolish and irresponsible!) We searched the neighborhood calling his name for hours. I missed school the following day to search for him. I couldn’t stop searching for…

Hello, my friends! It’s me, Delia writing today. I’m happy to announce that I am the proud new PupScouts Troop 314 leader. We are the first troop in the St. Louis, Mo. area! What is PupScouts? If you haven’t heard of PupScouts, it is like the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts for human kids, but PupScouts is for us pups! How cool is that!? We get to meet new friends, spend fun time with our pawrents, earn cool badges and help other pups and people in our communities. My mom has been slow getting things started. You know how human “stuff” can get in the way sometimes. I’m so excited…

Book Review- Loving Emmi: How Baby Morgan The Broken Jaw Puppy Stole Our Hearts And Our Wallet (Dog-Ma) (Volume 2) by Barbara Boswell Brunner
Barbara Boswell Brunner is back with another heart-wearming, thought-provoking book about her experiences loving and caring for dogs that others may have given up on. I’m so happy to have had the opportuity to read and review this book. Loving Emmi begins with a story about Barbara Boswell Brunner’s Rottweiler, Morgan, a humorous, gentle giant, who passed away in 2013 from cancer. The author tells of Morgan’s cancer battle and her impact on her family. Soon after Morgan’s passing, the family suffers another loss when their dog Cooper passes suspiciously. My heart broke for the family for suffering so much loss. The family began their search for a companion for…

Cersei: From the Lonely Streets of Mexico to a Forever Home in the USA
Today I want to introduce you to Cersei. When my friend Margaret lost her beloved Chihuahua, Izzy, she was heartbroken. Anyone who has loved and lost a beloved animal can relate to that pain. She began searching for a rescued Chihuahua to adopt, but after searching for weeks, she hadn’t found anyone she felt a connection with. That is until a friend who had retired to Mexico posted a photo on Facebook of a 4 pound, emaciated, homeless Chihuahua she found wandering the streets in their village. Margaret’s dog-loving friend helps homeless dogs in her community to find loving homes. When Margaret saw this little dog’s photo she felt an…

Book Review: Grow Young with Your Dog
We’re all familiar with the aches and pains that come with aging. Our dogs experience this, too. Mary Debono’s book Grow Young with Your Dog gives readers an approach to grow young and feel better, rather than old and achy with your dog, and the healing power of connection with your dog. (Pg. 6 Grow Young With Your Dog.) This book introduces twelve basic Debono Moves to do with your dog as well as Human Exercises to improve your mobility,…

Benefits of Essential Oils and Canine Massage after Trauma
Benefits of Essential Oils and Canine Massage after Trauma Today, I’m sharing my experience with helping my dog Nicky recover from a dog attack using essential oils and canine massage. For this post, I’ll be focusing primarily on the use of lavender essential oil. Sensitive Skin and Allergic Reactions My Nicky had sensitive skin and had allergic reactions to shampoos and topical flea and tick treatments. I’ve never been comfortable putting harsh chemicals on my dogs’ skin to kill parasites or giving them pills that can be as deadly as the parasites they’re made to kill. Of course, I’m not a fan of fleas and ticks or heart worms either,…
