Chewy Caught the Ball!
We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and do what Delia loves best….fetch! Except today, Chewy was determined to get the ball before Delia… …and he’s off! He caught the ball!! He usually can’t keep up with her, but this time, they ran together! He decided to take it to the deck and chew on it for a bit. Delia: “You gonna let go of that ball, Chewy?” Chewy: “No, I think I’m gonna keep it.”

BlogPaws Nashville 2015 Recap
A few weeks ago we attended the 2015 BlogPaws conference in Nashville, TN. This was my second BlogPaws conference, but Delia and Chewy’s first. Flat Delia went to the 2013 conference, but it was much more fun with the real Delia! This trip was Delia’s and Chewy’s first long road trip and hotel stay. They did great! They mastered the elevators and knew how to find our room by the first night. Our room had a balcony and they enjoyed watching all of the other pets and bloggers arrive. I had originally planned on taking Delia to the educational sessions with me, but she was a little too excited by…

Movie Review: Max
Last week I had the opportunity to attend a screening of the newly released movie Max from Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. Max follows the journey of a military working dog (MWD) whose U.S. Marine handler Kyle Wincott loses his life in Afghanistan. Traumatized, Max is adopted by Kyle’s family. Max and Kyle’s brother Justin bond and begin a journey of healing. As I said in my preview post, I usually avoid movies involving animals, but I am so happy I didn’t avoid Max. Yes, it was sad, and I did cry. A lot. I wasn’t alone. The story that unfolded in this movie moved everyone I spoke to…

Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness Review
Chewy goes to work with me every day, so he rides int he car a LOT. His safety is my priority, so I had purchased a car seat harness for him when he came to live with us. He chewed through one of the buckles the first week and escaped multiple times, no matter how I adjusted the straps, earning the nickname “Chewdini.” When Kurgo offered their Tru-Fit Smart Harness to review, I was happy to accept. I was provided a free Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness for our honest review and received no additional compensation for this post. The opinions are my own. The Kurgo Tru-Fit Smart Harness is designed…

Garfield and Odie Join The Shelter Pet Project to Promote Pet Adoption
June is Adopt-A-Cat Month, and Garfield and Odie have teamed up with The Shelter Pet Project to adoption of pets in shelters. In the video below, Garfield urges anyone wanting to add a pet to their family, to look at TheShelterPetProject.org to see pets available for adoption in their areas. June is considered “Kitten Season,” when thousands of homeless kittens are born, and join cats available for adoption in shelters across the country, so as Garfield says, “Adopt already!” There are cats for every personality in shelters and rescue groups right now, and with each adoption, the number of healthy and treatable pets who lose their lives in shelters each…

Help Stop Breeding Misery in Puppy Mills
A few years ago, the shelter I volunteered with rescued dogs at a Missouri puppy mill auction. The puppy mill, which was once Missouri’s largest, was being forced to close and they were selling their “stock.” The dogs were in terrible condition, yet they still charged insane amounts for the dogs to be saved. Staff and volunteers worked hard at assessing, bathing, grooming and setting up warm, soft places for the dogs to rest. Several were sent immediately for emergency veterinary care. Filthy, matted fur was shaved and gently scrubbed away to treat skin conditions. Many were suffering with previously untreated eye infections. Two suffered with eye infections so bad they were beyond saving.…

The Honest Kitchen’s Newest Recipe: Revel-Review and Giveaway
The Honest Kitchen has debuted a new recipe called Revel. Revel is made with healthy human grade ingredients like free range chicken, flax seeds, organic barley, carrots, bananas, and potatoes. Delia is a super picky adult and Chewy is a growing puppy, so when I heard Revel was good for picky dogs and dogs at all life stages, I knew we had to try it. The Honest Kitchen sent us a 2 lb box of Revel for Delia and Chewy to sample and review. They both ate it without hesitation on the first tasting. Revel is easy to prepare by simply adding warm water to the dry mixture according to…

Mickey
Mickey Mickey was my best friend from the age of 4 to 16. He was a gift from my Dad when I was sick with chickenpox. My dad was a dog lover too, and he was always finding homes for dogs in need. Mickey was a Chihuahua, who was just a few months old when my dad brought him home. We didn’t know his actual birthday, so we decided he and I would share a birthday. I loved sharing my birthday with that little guy. My dad passed away when I was 7 and Mickey became a connection to my dad in addition to my best friend. He became my…

Delia’s Paw Print Tattoo
I finally did it! Getting a tattoo of Delia’s paw print has been a goal of mine since she joined our family. A few weeks ago a friend and I went to Self Inflicted Studio in St. Louis and the amazing Zack “Panda” Donahue imprinted my baby girl’s paw onto my wrist. He took the photocopy of Delia’s paw print and duplicated it amazingly. I got her print by placing her paw on an ink pad (I only had pink ink handy), then placing her inked paw on a piece of paper. I was shocked when I saw the print. Her metacarpal pad left an almost perfect heart shape. I knew THAT…
